Dining at Ballinkeele

The Irish Country House was built to welcome and entertain guests and good food has always been at the heart of that welcome. They were doing ‘locally sourced’ long before it became something to shout about!

From the moment you arrive at Ballinkeele house and are welcomed by your hosts, that world famous ‘Irish Hospitality’ kicks in. Home baked treats are served with your tea or freshly-ground coffee in vintage china cups by the fire in the drawing room – or on a really nice day on the patio outside. This is complimentary to all of our resident guests.

If you wish to dine at Ballinkeele, on Saturday nights we serve a set 3-course meal. On Thursday, Friday, Sunday & Monday a light supper is available.

Light Evening Supper

Supper is served on Thursday, Friday, Sunday & Monday between 18:00 and 20:00

Using vegetables, fruit & herbs from the walled garden – grown & tended for us by Mary, Val’s sister – we carefully prepare homemade country soups (and salads in season) for our guests. For anything we can’t grow ourselves we source from artisan food producers right here in Wexford.

Sample the best that Wexford has to offer with Soup, Brown Bread, a Selection of Irish Cheeses served by the fire in the Library is €20 per person. Why not indulge yourself with a nice bottle of wine to accompany it?

Saturday Night Dinner

The meal on Saturday nights is a true Irish country house experience, with 3 courses served ‘dinner party style’ in the magnificent rich-red period dining room at Ballinkeele, harking back to a country house grandeur of a bygone era – just like Downton Abbey! You will enjoy your evening meal by candlelight together around the family’s original mahogany table.

Prepared by Laura and her husband Val, endeavors to serve the best of local, fresh & seasonal produce – cooked simply and served in sumptuous surroundings.

Dinner is served at 7:30pm and is €40 per person.

Wine

Ballinkeele is licenced to sell wine, champagne & prosecco and we have a small but perfectly formed wine list. A bit like Laura, who has the pleasure of selecting them! It’s a tough job but someone has to do it! If you don’t fancy what’s on the list, you are welcome to bring a bottle of your own, and a corkage fee applies.

Breakfast at Ballinkeele

The ‘Full Irish’

Each morning breakfast is served in the magnificent rich-red period dining room. Guests are greeted brightly by Val or Laura at breakfast time who take their order.

No stodgy pre-cooked hotel brekkie here! Our breakfasts are prepared fresh-to-order, so tuck into some fresh fruit & cereals and homegrown homemade jams on Val’s famous Irish Brown Soda Bread while we cook it for you. We offer you a choice of;

Porridge – Flahavans, of course, milled just down the road in Waterford. Prepared with milk to be extra creamy.

Pancakes – American style, served with lemon & cinnamon sugar and maple syrup or if you’re feeling really adventurous, try them with some O’Neills bacon along with maple syrup!

‘The Full Irish’ – Using Pat O’Neills award-winning Bacon, Sausages & Pudding and home-grown tomatoes in season, along with mushrooms and your eggs how you like them – this is a treat not to be missed.

Allergies

We can cater for most allergies, please make us aware of any & all food allergies & dislikes at the time of booking. Sample some of Val’s fabulous Irish Brown Gluten-Free Soda Bread – Moist & delicious – he does a dairy free version too!

We regret that we are unable to cater for vegans.
