Sometimes you've got to step back & re-assess things to make sure you're on the right path, and we've done just that.
The last 6 years have been very eventful for us, Val & I both lost close family members, we moved here, and despite having worked in IT up to then, we ran Ballinkeele as a bed & breakfast - though that term doesn't quite to do it justice! We met so many lovely people and cooked up a storm, all the while raising our 4 gorgeous rambunctious children. To cut a long story short - we burned out.
We closed and even considered leaving Ballinkeele for good - but we just couldn't do it - it's just too wonderful here, despite the pressures of caring for a large piece of Irish heritage by ourselves!
It was a steep learning curve, learning how to run our own business and believe it or not it takes a certain type of skill to live in a house like this. You really never know what it's going to throw at you! Thankfully, Val is incredibly handly - I don't think there's a piece of machinery he can't operate & believe me we have a lot!!!
And so begins the next chapter for us and for Ballinkeele. A very exciting event happens on Thursday and it's been so long in the planning that I can hardly believe it's nearly here. In preperation for it we turned this:
It's all in a good cause, we promise, and we were very careful that any changes we made could be reversed.
In other preperations we turned our laundry room...
Into a bombsite - but it's been re-plastered and all will be well when the bathroom suite arrives!
Unfortunately all my 'before and afters', look worse after! Actually not all - we removed an old diesel tank from the front of the house (I know!) and it looks amazing now - but typically I forgot to take an after picture because the rain arrived & we dashed back in for tea!
We also found a way into The Upsidedown... as you do!
This week will bring lots of positive changes and will finally feel like going forward instead of back for a change.
Oh and I couldn't finish this blog post without mentioning this - our new website and this my new blog. I have been intending to do both for a very long time, so this is quite a milestone for me. More updates on our progress to come soon - Night, night!
